Centre Director

Paul O’Donoghue
BA Psych., MA Psych., MIAHIP, ECP, Reg. ICP
Paul is a psychologist and psychotherapist. He has an academic background in psychology and philosophy and has trained in humanistic and integrative psychotherapy. He has been involved in the training of counsellors and psychotherapists since 1990 while continuing his practice as a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. He is the Centre’s Clinical Director and is Programme Director for the MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy.

Director of Training

Brían Howlett
BA(Hons.), FCA, Dip. Gestalt Therapy, Dip. Supervision, MIAHIP, MBASRT, ECP, Reg. ICP
Brían is a Gestalt therapist with a background in couples therapy. He has considerable experience in the training and supervision of counsellors and psychotherapists, and of clinical supervisors. He is the Centre’s Training Director and is the Programme Director for the Centre’s Professional Diploma in Supervision.


Clinical Staff

The Centre is staffed by qualified, experienced and accredited counsellors and psychotherapists. Clinical Services are also offered by some students who have attained a certain level of training and experience. A range of specialist help is offered by counsellors/psychotherapists who have undertaken training in specific areas of work.

Training Team

Dr. Mary Peyton
M.B., B.A.O., B.Ch., F.F.A.R.C.S.I, Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, Dip. Process Oriented Supervision, MIAHIP, Reg. ICP
Mary works as an Integrative and Humanistic psychotherapist in private practice and is an accredited Supervisor with IAHIP. She studied Medicine in UCD and has a Fellowship in Anaesthesia from the Faculty of Anaesthesia, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Judith King
B.Ed, M.Ed(Adult), Dip. Rel. Ed., Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, MIAHIP, Reg. ICP
Judith’s background is in education, community development and organisational development. She has a particular interest in the systemic perspective on bodywork, and personal and group life. In association with group facilitation and organisational consultancy, Judith maintains a private practice as a psychotherapist in the Novara Centre, Bray, Co. Wicklow.

Bronagh Starrs
BA, Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, Dip. Supervision, MIAHIP, Reg. ICP
Bronagh maintains a private practice in Omagh, Northern Ireland, as a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, writer and trainer, specialising in working with children, adolescents and their families. She is an adolescent development specialist and has considerable experience as a trainer in adolescent development and therapy throughout Ireland. She is Programme Director for the MSc Adolescent Psychotherapy. She also teaches and presents internationally on the developmental implication of trauma on the adolescent journey. She is Director of Blackfort Adolescent Gestalt Institute.

Patricia Allen-Garrett
BSc. Psych., Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, ECP, MIAHIP, Reg. ICP
Patricia works as a humanistic and integrative psychotherapist in private practice and in a community setting, and is also engaged in group work with people who have attempted suicide.  She has been involved in the training of counsellors since 2008 and has particular interest in both trauma and bereavement.

Maeve Lewis
BA, HDip.Ed, Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, Advanced Cert. Group Analytic Psychotherapy, MIAHIP, Reg. ICP
Maeve is Director of One in Four. She is a psychotherapist and supervisor working from a humanistic perspective. She has a particular interest in psychological trauma and has worked on numerous international projects in places such as Rwanda and Sierra Leone.

Mary Hilliard

Mary is a psychotherapist and supervisor working from a humanistic and integrative orientation. She currently maintains a private practice in Dublin.

Kate McCarthy
B.Ed., Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, Dip. Gestalt Therapy, MIAHIP, Reg. ICP
Kate trained as a psychotherapist in the Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre, having previously worked in the education field. She has special interest in attachment and early trauma and maintains a private practice in Bray.

Gerry O’Farrell
Dip. Counselling & Psychotherapy, Dip. Clinical Supervision, Dip. Group Facilitation, MIAHIP, Reg. ICP
Gerry is an integrative and humanistic psychotherapist and supervisor with experience of working in the public sector and private practice. He has particular experience of working with trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Breda Lilburn

Breda has trained as a psychotherapist in the Tivoli Institute in Dublin and as a clinical supervisor in Dublin Counselling & Therapy Centre. She maintains a private practice in Dublin.
